At Canterbury South Public School, we have robotic and coding class that our students can participate in.
Last year Mrs Tran ran a 5 week coding enrichment program with all students and teachers in Year 2- 6. Data from surveying our students at the beginning and then at the end of the program showed that. Students now understand what coding is and students learnt at least 3 new skills realting to coding such as problems solving, logical thinking and using block or java code to create a program. Students found the enrichment program to be engaging and would like to continue learning about coding. This year Mr Gifford and Mrs Tran will continue teaching coding skills in Terms 2 -4 through a coding club.
This year all students K-6 will be taking part in a Robotics program. Each years will be using a different robotics kit:
Kindergarten - blue bots
Year 1 and 2 - Lego wedo 2.0
Year 3 and 4 - sphero SPRK
Year 5 and 6 - Lego mindstorms Ev3
These lessons will introduce digital literacy skills such as coding and the lessons will include STEM and problem based learning skills.
