Student opportunities and activities
At Canterbury South Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.
Our programs include:
- school sport, athletics and inter-school competitions
- creative and performing arts groups and showcases
- music development including the recorder ensemble group and junior keyboard lessons
- cultural and language activities
- sustainability initiatives hosted by the student led Green Team

- public speaking, debating, spelling and mathematics competitions

Our extra-curricular highlights
Debating and Public Speaking Champions
Students develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. Our successful 2025 team progressed to the ?? after winning the ?? round.
High Performing Athletes
Identified students supported to transition from school-level to representative-level competition. Canterbury South Public School is proud of our students who we have helped to progress into zone, regional and even national teams.
Creative and Performing Arts
Our dance, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. Dance and Choir groups attend the annual Combined Music Festival and our talented recorder ensemble perform at the Festival for Instrumental Music at the Sydney Opera House each year.
Green Team
Our sustainable school community garden engages students, staff and families in environmental awareness, healthy eating and hands-on learning. A highlight are the native plants which support our bush tucker workshops and Science lessons.
Koori Club
Our Koori Club supports our Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander students in strengthening their cultural identity and promoting reconciliation in our school. They host cultural events like NAIDOC Week celebrations, smoking ceremonies or preschool workshops.
Chess Club
Supported by our affiliation with senior students from Canterbury Boys High School, students with a keen eye for chess are welcome to test their strategies in this lunchtime club. Members of the club have opportunities to progress to inter school competitions.
